Success can be a scary thing, and it is easy to make excuses as to why we can’t be successful. The fear of failure is only overshadowed by the fear of success. You have to know what is holding you back so that can successfully move forward into your light.
When working with entrepreneurs and small business owners I often hear the same excuses over and over. “I am too old – I am too young.”
“I don’t have an MBA – I didn’t go to college at all.” “ I don’t come from a wealthy family”. This list is endless. We all have some concerns, and we all harbor some negative thoughts.
A few years back I emailed 20 business women, ages 25-82 and I asked them to write down 20 words that they would use to describe me. As the answers came back I entered them into an Excel spreadsheet. All 20 women said I was kind; 18 of them said I was no nonsense, no BS, and in the other 50+ responses were such words as good friend, great cook, loving, non-judgemental, honest, ethical, caring, smart, funny, generous, trustworthy, trusting and more.
This was the most eye-opening experience I have ever had. And I encourage you to do the same. I cried, I laughed until I almost croaked. But most of all I felt loved and appreciated and I knew that I was on the right path for my desire to be a business mentor.
Don’t focus on the negativity in your brain. I say “Get over it”. You are Unique – you are the only one of you and because of that you have your own brand of Fabulousness inside you. No more excuses.
When you watch Shark Tank, you see people from all ages, nationalities, genders, and economic situations come on national TV to make their pitch. They come to share their own unique idea with the Sharks in hopes of landing a deal.
Do they all succeed; of course not. But, do they all try; yes they do. It can’t be easy being told NO in front of millions of viewers, but they try anyway. Why, because the opportunity for success is huge.
So I say to you, be your own best cheerleader!
Never be afraid to speak up and tell people who you are, what you do and make your unique-self visible to the world. Someone out there is looking for you right now.
